Getting Started
Do I need an API key to use Tiny Land?
No! You can use our managed "Whale" model without any API key. However, to access other models like GPT, Claude, or Gemini, you'll need to provide your own API keys.
Is Tiny Land free?
Yes, Tiny Land is free to use. You only pay for your own API usage if you choose to use models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or other providers.
What's the difference between public and private characters?
Public: Visible in search, anyone can view and chat.
Private: Only you can see and chat. Great for personal characters.
Character Creation
What's the minimum information needed to create a character?
Just a name and greeting! However, we recommend adding a description and definition for better conversations.
Can I edit my character after creating it?
Yes! Go to the character page and click "Edit" to modify any aspect of your character.
What is a character definition?
The definition describes your character's personality, background, speaking style, and behavior. It's like the "instructions" for how the AI should roleplay the character.
How do I add multiple greetings?
In the character editor, look for "Additional Greetings" and add as many as you want. Users can swipe between them when starting a chat.
What are lorebooks and do I need them?
Lorebooks add contextual information that activates based on keywords. They're optional but great for detailed world-building. See our Lorebook Guide for details.
Chatting
What does "swipe" mean?
Swipe lets you see alternative responses. If a character has multiple greetings or if you regenerate a response, you can swipe left/right to choose your favorite.
Can I edit messages?
Yes! Click the edit button on any message to modify it. This creates a new "candidate" and the conversation branches from there.
How do I change the AI model mid-conversation?
Click the settings icon in the chat, then select a different model from the dropdown. Make sure you have the required API key set up.
What are chat settings (temperature, top_p, etc.)?
Temperature: Controls randomness (0=focused, 2=creative)
Top P: Nucleus sampling
Max Tokens: Response length limit
Higher temperature = more creative but less predictable
API Keys & Models
How do I add my OpenAI API key?
Go to Profile → Settings → API Keys. Click "Add Key", select OpenAI, paste your key, and save. Get keys at platform.openai.com
Which model is best for roleplay?
Claude Opus 4.5, GPT-5.1, and Gemini 2.5 Pro are excellent. DeepSeek Chat is great for budget-conscious users. See our Models Guide.
Are my API keys secure?
Yes! API keys are encrypted and stored securely in our database. They're never exposed in logs or to other users.
Can I use multiple API keys?
Yes! Add keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and DeepSeek. Switch between them anytime in chat settings.
Advanced Features
What are personas?
Personas let you create different versions of yourself. For example, a "Professional" persona and a "Casual" persona. The active persona's info is shared with the AI.
How do I import a character card?
Click "Import Character" and upload a PNG file with embedded character data. We support Character Card V2 and V3 formats. See Import/Export Guide.
What are regex scripts?
Advanced feature that lets you transform text using regex patterns. For example, automatically replacing certain words or formatting text.
Troubleshooting
The AI isn't responding / chat is stuck
Check your API key is valid and you have credits. Try regenerating the response or refreshing the page.
Character responses are inconsistent
Make sure your definition is clear and detailed. Consider adding a lorebook for important world details. Try a better model like Claude Opus or GPT-5.1.
I can't find my character in search
Make sure it's set to "Public" and has been saved. It may take a few minutes to appear in search results.
Error: "Permission Denied"
You're trying to access a private character you don't own. Only the creator can view/chat with private characters.
Content & Community
Is NSFW content allowed?
Yes, but it must be properly tagged with the NSFW flag. Users can filter NSFW content from their search results.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, go to Profile → Settings → Delete Account. This will permanently delete all your characters and chats.
How do I report inappropriate content?
Contact our support team with the character ID or details. We take moderation seriously.
